FAQs

Also known as plasma fibroblast therapy, plasma skin resurfacing is an FDA-approved treatment that is non-ablative, and in fact, does not use any lasers at all. The technology discharges a targeted, high-frequency current of electricity to the areas of the skin to be treated. The device never touches the skin, but rather it releases the electric current just above it. The thermal energy creates very small micro-injuries in the surface of the skin.

Specifically, the electric current targets the fibroblasts in the dermis, which is the layer of skin just underneath the outermost layer. Fibroblasts are responsible for producing collagen and other vital proteins. By targeting the fibroblasts in this manner, the device triggers the renewed production of collagen and other proteins, and it causes the tightening of the tissues.

We ask that you disclose your full medical history, including any medications you are taking and your history of prior treatments in the area. Your safety and wellness are of the utmost importance to us.

Please prepare for your appointment with the following steps. Note that your provider may give you additional instructions to follow.

  • Avoid sun exposure for two to four weeks prior to your treatment.
  • Avoid having other types of treatments on the area for the time being (including chemical peels, fillers, laser treatments, and Botox).
  • Avoid using Retin A, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, and other acids on the treatment area for two weeks prior to and three weeks following your appointment.

If you have recently had a surgical procedure, such as a facelift, we ask that you wait nine months before scheduling a plasma skin resurfacing treatment.

To begin, our provider will cleanse the skin and apply a topical numbing agent. Then, we will use a pen-like device to deliver the electric current to the treatment areas. We will also apply a cooling gel to support your comfort level. Your appointment may take up to an hour.

Please follow your aftercare instructions carefully. Your treated areas will have small, dot-like scabs. It is important to avoid scratching them. They will fall off naturally within one week. Depending on your skin goals, you may need a series of up to three treatments to achieve your desired results.

The most popular areas to treat are around the eyes (both upper and lower), peri-oral (around the mouth), forehead, jawline, decollete and neck. Because Subnovii can target very specific areas of concern, your provider may discuss combining Subnovii with other aesthetic treatments.
