Since the 1920’s, Prolotherapy has been considered a safe, well studied and highly successful form of regenerative medicine that initiates the growth of new tissue in targeted areas of the body.
Using Prolotherapy, the body is able to naturally repair injured tissue, making it a great, non-surgical approach for rejuvenating the affected area and decreasing pain.
How Does Prolotherapy Work?
Prolotherapy is performed by injecting a dextrose solution into the affected ligament or tendon at the site of the injury.
This causes inflammation in the area which increases blood supply and the flow of nutrients to the injury.
The result is the growth of new tissue, and decreased pain, in the previously weak area.
Who Can Benefit From Prolotherapy?
Prolotherapy can be used to treat a number of different musculoskeletal injuries and pain including, but not limited to:
- Back, Neck, or Shoulder Pain
- Bulging Discs
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Degenerative Knee Cartilage
- Frozen Shoulder and Rotator Cuff Injuries
- Partially Torn Tendons and Torn Ligaments
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Sports Injuries
- Tendonitis (including Tennis Elbow)
As well, people who suffer from weakness or instability that lasts for more than six weeks and is tied to muscle or joint pain can also benefit from Prolotherapy.
At the time of treatment, your doctor will begin by preparing the area for treatment and making sure you are comfortable. The treatment typically lasts approximately 30 minutes including preparation and recovery time. During the treatment, injections of a mild irritant solution will be administered to the site of pain in order to stimulate the growth of cartilage and collagen. This process can cause mild discomfort depending on the patient’s pain threshold and the area being treated. However, this discomfort typically passes quickly and most people are able to return to work or usual activities immediately after the procedure.
After the treatment is complete, some patients see immediate improvements while others may experience temporary swelling or stiffness at the site of treatment for several days. Most patients can expect pain relief to continue for several weeks after the first treatment, though additional sessions may be needed in order to create permanent results.
The number of treatments recommended will vary from patient to patient. On average, treatments range from between four and six total injections.
At Vitality Natural Health Care, your doctor will keep in close communication with you throughout the course of your treatment in order to evaluate the ongoing effectiveness of the injections as well as to monitor how your body is responding to the treatment.
Advanced Prolotherapy Treatments
Along with the standard Prolotherapy Therapy treatment, Vitality Natural Health Care also offers another advanced Prolotherapy treatment option that uses your body’s own platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to treat the affected areas and produce even longer lasting results.
This advanced treatment is called Prolotherapy with PRP.
Prolotherapy with PRP
Considered one of the most advanced forms of regenerative medicine available today, Prolotherapy with PRP utilizes your body’s own platelets and advanced growth factors to repair damaged tissue fibers and joints.
During the Prolotherapy with PRP treatment, your body increases collagen production and uses glucose to recreate your body’s own natural healing process, leading to longer lasting results.
